The Eurostar: At a glance

• The journey between London’s St Pancras International and Paris’s Gare du Nord takes just about 2 hours and 15 minutes on the Eurostar. So, you can spend more time exploring these cities and less time travelling.
• As you speed between London and Paris, you’ll pass beneath the English Channel through the iconic Channel Tunnel, which is about 50 km long, with nearly 38 km running under the seabed.
• The tunnel part of the ride is completely dark, with no views of the sea. However, if you glance out your carriage window, you will catch mesmerising reflections of sunlight underwater.
• After emerging from the tunnel, the scenery outside transforms into a lovely mix of rolling French countryside and postcard-perfect villages.
• The route that the train traverses is unique. You’ll depart from a grand Victorian station in London, rush over custom high-speed tracks, and roll straight into central Paris without too much hassle.
• In the UK, the Eurostar runs on High Speed 1 (HS1), a 108 km (67 miles) high-speed railway line specifically built for the Eurostar’s journey between London St Pancras International and the Channel Tunnel.
• While on the HS1, the Eurostar speeds up to 300 km/h (186 mph) before entering the tunnel, but you won’t feel even the slightest disturbance while on board.
• Once out of the Channel Tunnel, the Eurostar joins the LGV Nord high-speed line in France, securely transporting you to Paris and its iconic skyline.
• When you arrive at your destination, you’ll be right in the heart of the action! In London, you can explore the British Museum, click pictures with Big Ben in the background, and catch a play at the West End.
• In Paris, you get to pose with the Eiffel Tower, brunch at charming cafés, and stroll along the banks of the Seine.
• The Eurostar is one of the most eco-friendly ways to travel between London and Paris, as taking this train produces far fewer carbon emissions than flying.

Tips to make the most of your Eurostar journey

• If you’re traveling from Paris to London, make sure to fill in the Advance Passenger Information (API) well in advance of your trip. 
• It would also help to research the UK-EU border requirements to ensure you don’t miss carrying any relevant documentation needed to cross the border.
• Arrive early, with plenty of time to spare. Even though you’re not boarding a plane, you’ll still need to pass through security, passport control, luggage & gate checks at both the St Pancras International and Gare du Nord stations. 
• We recommend arriving at least 75 minutes early. This gives you plenty of time to finish your checks, grab a coffee, and hop on board.
• It’s worth booking your Eurostar seats early too! Like with airfares, the sooner you reserve, the better deal you’ll get.
• Expect the Wi-Fi to get spotty when traveling in the Channel Tunnel. It’s more prudent to bring a book, download your favorite show or playlist, than to rely on continuous connectivity onboard.
• Brace yourself for the occasional delay caused by unpredictable weather, rail works, or tunnel incidents.
• Only bring luggage you can carry by yourself. The Eurostar allows for two large pieces of luggage and one hand luggage with no strict weight limit. However, you will have to board and disboard with them yourself.
